The Buena Vista County Emergency Medical Services Association donated binder lift systems to area medical providers, including Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s Ambulance Department. This equipment makes it easier and safer for staff to lift patients who have fallen, helping to get them to the care they need.
For patients needing help from the ambulance department who have fallen or who are unable to move on their own, the newly donated equipment provides an easier way to help patients off the ground.
Emergency medical services workers have higher rates of work-related injuries than the general workforce and are at risk to sprains, strains, falls and more. Using safer, more advanced equipment reduces the risk of injury not only for patients but to BVRMC staff as well.
“At BVRMC, patient and staff safety is a priority to us, which is why using some of the most updated and advanced equipment is so valuable to our team,” says Robert Shontz, BVRMC ambulance manager. “Thank you to the Buena Vista County Emergency Medical Services Association for donating equipment that will help our staff stay safe while saving lives.”
All BVRMC ambulances are now equipped with two sizes of the new binder lift system. Both sizes are adjustable, allowing staff to safely lift patients of all sizes.
The binder lift wraps around a patient’s torso and has straps that can go around their legs. The wrap provides stability and reduces the risk of skin tears, bruising and fractures for the patient.
Featuring 19-25 handles, this piece of equipment allows BVRMC staff to perform a safer and easier team-lift. All materials in the binder lift are 100% impervious to bodily fluid and are chemical resistant, making sanitization quick and easy.
