Community Member Shares Sewing Talents with Patients at BVRMC

Dozens of locally-made fleece scarves have been donated to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s Oncology & Infusion Center this winter to provide comfort and warmth to patients.

The scarf project was made by Jennifer Hansen and her neighbor, Nancy Sanderman, both from Schaller. Hansen has been sharing her sewing talents with BVRMC through the BVRMC Auxiliary for many years.

As with this project, fabric is often donated to Hansen. “A lot of people give me fabric,” says Hansen. “We like to put it to good use.”

The BVRMC Auxiliary helps to fund non-budgeted patient care items to help staff better serve patients. The Auxiliary buys fabric to make pillow cases, coloring bags, walker bags, mastectomy pillows and other items for BVRMC patients. Hansen is one of many helping hands who volunteer their sewing talents to create these items.

“We are very fortunate to have such kind people in our community who take time out of their lives to help provide comfort to others,” says BVRMC Volunteer Services Coordinator Lisa Alesch.
