An Extra Layer of Protection added at BVRMC First Embrace Obstetrics

Buena Vista Regional Healthcare Foundation’s annual ‘Life Saver’ fundraiser always takes a top priority to the safety and security of our patients. To deliver that important protection to a precious newborn is critical. Through this generous support, the Cuddles Infant Protection System™ can ease a mother’s mind.

One of BVRMC’s greatest pleasures is watching a parent hold a newborn. Their safety is BVMRC’s priority. This system, is the latest technology and a way to enhance BVRMC’s protection for that cherished newborn.

“Being a mom and a physician, the safety of our children is always at the forefront of my mind. There is no one more vulnerable than an infant. This new safety system will protect even the littlest of our patients and give added peace of mind to our new parents and their families,” says Dr. Lisa Shepherd.

By attaching a lightweight, non-allergenic and self-adjusting LED band to the wrist or leg of a newborn, the nurse can monitor the location and movement of the baby by computer. The band is uniquely matched to the mother’s identification. If there is an attempt to remove the band, an alarm immediately sounds.

“Safety of infants is always a high priority. I have worked in a hospital where this system was in use, and have seen how well it worked. Preventing infant abduction is key, but this system also provides for quick response in case of emergency. Having this system is certainly a reasonable step to make sure we remain safe,” comments Dr. Kyle Glienke.

Thankfully, infant abduction has not happened at BVRMC. The department conducts frequent drills and the Cuddles Infant Protection System™ adds another layer of protection.
