Foundation Nursing Scholarship

The BVRMC Nursing Scholarship Committee is accepting scholarship applications until March 31. The annual scholarship is $1000, and the number of available scholarships varies based on donations. Since 2003, 204 scholarships have been awarded.

Who is eligible for the scholarship?

Applicants must:

Be a permanent resident of Buena Vista County or adjoining county of Ida, Sac, Pocahontas, Clay or Cherokee OR a student enrolled in nursing at Iowa Central Community College–Storm Lake campus or Buena Vista University.
Have completed at least one year of pre-nursing education at an accredited school and has applied or will be applying to a nursing program for the upcoming academic year.
Have a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Be a nurse working towards an advanced degree.

There is a special exception for current BVRMC employees with a CNA certificate that have completed at least one semester of nursing education.

What is the awarded amount?

The scholarship is $1000 per year, split into $500 each semester. To receive the second $500 payment, recipient must provide evidence of acceptable academic progress by February 1, 2026, unless prior arrangements are made. Applicants must apply again each year to be considered for the scholarship. Recipients are only permitted to be awarded the scholarship twice in their lifetime.

What is the application deadline?

The application and required three reference reports must be postmarked no later than March 31.
