Thanks to the generosity of donors, gifts were provided to patients fighting cancer this summer.
Patients like Ron McLaughlin of Fonda and William Todd of Storm Lake expressed gratitude for the thoughtful support and said they feel truly cared for by the BVRMC Oncology & Infusion Center team.
The AWARE, Annual Walk And Run Event, is an ongoing fundraiser benefiting patients receiving cancer treatment at BVRMC. The fund helps purchase items not covered by insurance such as hats, wigs, grocery cards, chemo shirts, mastectomy products and comfort items.
AWARE funds are raised from community donations to the Buena Vista Regional Healthcare Foundation. All donations stay local and go directly toward supporting patients, ensuring that the impact of every gift is felt right here in our community.
“These gifts are reminders to our patients that they are seen, cared for and supported by people beyond the walls of the hospital,” says Deb Colshan, BVRMC Director of Oncology & Infusion. “When patients receive something as simple as a grocery card, it eases their burden and brightens what can be a difficult time.”
The impact of the AWARE fund is felt throughout the year, offering both practical support and emotional encouragement.
“We are truly thankful to our AWARE donors,” says Katie Schwint, BVRMC Executive Director of Community Development. “Your generosity directly touches the lives of patients right here in our community.”
The 2025’s AWARE 5K & Kid’s Fun Run takes place Saturday, September 20 at BVRMC. Register online at bvrmc.org by September 11 to guarantee a shirt.
