Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s Board of Trustees has approved moving forward with plans to construct a new BVRMC Medical Office Building on the BVRMC campus.

The approximately 30,000 square foot facility will bring together all UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine providers and BVRMC Pharmacy in one modern, efficient, patient centered environment. The new building will be located north of the current hospital main entrance.

“The Board is committed to looking ahead and preparing for the future of health care in our region,” says Dr. Rick Lampe, Chair of the BVRMC Board of Trustees. “The new medical office building strengthens our campus, supports our providers and ensures that the families of the region will continue to have access to exceptional care close to home.”

The total project cost is approximately $20 million. Groundbreaking will happen in spring 2026. Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2027.

A key component of the project is that no new taxes will be requested from the community. The investment will be paid for through BVRMC’s operational income and financial reserves, reflecting the hospital’s long standing commitment to responsible financial stewardship.

In the 1980s, the area’s two family medicine clinics joined Trimark Physicians Group, which later became part of UnityPoint Health. By bringing all family medicine providers together in a single modern facility on the BVRMC campus, patients will experience convenient access to care and providers will benefit from efficient workflows supported by proximity to hospital services.

“UnityPoint Health is proud to partner with BVRMC on a project that enhances access to high quality patient care,” says Jennifer Crimmins, Regional Vice President, UnityPoint Health, Fort Dodge. “Bringing all family medicine providers together in coordinated space will make it easier for patients to get the care they need and help our teams deliver the best possible experience.”

BVRMC Pharmacy, Storm Lake’s only locally owned pharmacy, will also move into the new building. The design includes expanded service areas and a drive up window for added patient convenience.

Plans for the BV Clinic and BVRMC Pharmacy’s current locations remain under discussion.

BVRMC has selected Graham Construction as the construction manager and InVision Architecture as the project architect.

“This project represents an important investment in continuing to make BVRMC the best place for physicians to practice and the best place for patients to receive care,” says Rob Colerick, BVRMC CEO. “By providing our primary UnityPoint Clinic care providers with spaces designed for today’s standards of primary care, we are ensuring high quality, accessible health care for the region for years to come.” Buena Vista Regional Medical Center has served the region for more than 70 years, providing high quality health care and a full range of medical services for patients and families across Buena Vista County and surrounding areas. The new BVRMC medical office building reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to investing in modern, accessible, community focused health care.
