The Buena Vista Regional Healthcare Foundation has enhanced newborn jaundice care in its First Embrace Obstetrics Department with the purchase of a new BiliCocoon Kangaroo Care Phototherapy Unit.
Newborn jaundice affects two to three infants each month at BVRMC. Unlike traditional phototherapy equipment, the BiliCocoon allows babies to receive treatment while being held or swaddled, supporting kangaroo care, improving comfort, and strengthening parent–infant bonding.
“This new equipment allows parents to comfort and bond with their baby while treatment is underway,” said Jeanette Todd, BVRMC Director of Obstetrics. “It improves the experience for families while supporting better outcomes for our newborns.”
The BiliCocoon also helps reduce hospital stays, lowers stress for infants and parents, and improves efficiency for nursing staff. Support from the BVRMC Cares for Kids fund continues to advance BVRMC’s commitment to safe, compassionate beginnings for every baby.
