After more than four decades of dedicated service to health care in Storm Lake and beyond, Michele Kelly, RN, MSN, CPHQ, will retire from her role as Chief Clinical Officer at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center (BVRMC).
Michele began her extraordinary career in 1979 as a staff nurse at Buena Vista County Hospital. Over the next 45 years, she rose through the ranks to lead with humility, heart, and an unrelenting commitment to quality care. Her journey has left an indelible mark on the health and well-being of the community and on every professional fortunate enough to work alongside her.
A data-driven leader and passionate mentor, Michele has guided BVRMC through transformative initiatives in patient safety, quality improvement, and cultural excellence. Her work has consistently improved clinical outcomes, expanded access to services, and helped shape a hospital environment known for compassion and innovation. Under her leadership, BVRMC has earned a reputation not just for outstanding care, but for being a place where employees thrive and patients come first.
Beyond BVRMC, Michele’s leadership has been recognized at both the state and national levels. She has served on the Iowa Hospital Association Board, led the Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders, and presented at national conferences on rural health care quality and patient safety. Her voice has helped shape the future of nursing and health care policy in Iowa and across the country.
“Michele’s passion, energy, and dedication have touched every part of BVRMC,” said BVRMC CEO Rob Colerick. “She’s been a driving force for better care and a better culture. Her impact will be felt here for a long time.”
A celebration honoring Michele’s career and contributions will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at BVRMC.
