BVRMC Foundation Donations Purchase Lift Chairs

Donations to the Buena Vista Regional Healthcare Foundation have been used to purchase five of the newest lift chairs available at a cost of $23,000 for Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s inpatient department. These chairs will benefit patients who may have recently had an orthopedic procedure or any patient needing assistance with safely standing or sitting.  An additional benefit is that BVRMC caregivers can reduce their own physical strain when assisting patients through the use of these lift chairs.  Pictured sitting is Julia White, BVRMC Director of Rehab.  Standing, left to right, are BVRMC nursing staff members Jeb Mugge, Tanja Danner and Amanda Johnson with Deb Colshan, Director of Medical/Surgical – ICU.

“Cares for Kids” Donations Support BVRMC

A portion of the donations to the “Cares for Kids” fund at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center have recently been used to purchase an infant and child immobilizer used by the BVRMC Diagnostic Imaging department. This device helps keep these young patients from moving during procedures which improves the quality of the images being taken. Pictured is a toddler in the immobilizer.  “Cares for Kids” fund donations are used to support the needs of infants and children being served at BVRMC.  For more information, please contact Katie Schwint, Executive Director of Community Development, by calling 712.213.8601.

ClearSight Device for the Surgery Department

Foundation funds have been used to purchase a ClearSight device for the Surgery department. This device is used on critically ill patients or patients with sensitive fluid volume. Among its many benefits is that the ClearSight device will give beat-to-beat readings on cardiac output without inserting an arterial line. Shown in the photo are left to right, Casey Orth-Nebitt, Director of OR, Gabriel Scheer, CRNA, and Julie Anderson, Director of Same Day Surgery/Endoscopy.

VPS Rhythm Device for Nurses

Donations to the Foundation have been used to purchase
the new VPS Rhythm Device used by the nursing staff to insert and confirm PICC line placements. PICC lines are
very long IVs that are used for special nutrition and certain medications that cannot be given through a regular IV catheter. With this VPS device, the need for a chest X-ray to determine catheter position will be eliminated. Pictured with the device are Sarah Naberhaus, RN, BSN, Director of ER/Ambulance, and Dianne Tiefenthaler, RN.

PICC Nurses Learn to Use Extended Dwell Peripheral IV Catherters

The Arrow company was on site teaching BVRMC’s PICC nurses to insert Extended Dwell Peripheral IV catheters. This is very exciting news and and is a new device that will be used on patients requiring long term IV antibiotics. The catheters can be left in up to 30 days. Amanda Johnson, Joan O’Leary, Dianne Tiefenthaler, and Sarah Naberhaus are pictured above.

Pictured are Buena Vista Regional Medical Center staff members Terry Lammers, Sarah Naberhaus, Kathy Jones and Gwenn Ehlers with three of the nine new wheelchairs purchased at a cost of $19,960 that were funded entirely with donations to the Buena Vista Regional Healthcare Foundation. These wheelchairs are the latest innovation for patient transport, providing greater ease of operation, comfort and safety. They are located in the Diagnostic imaging, Medical/Surgical and Emergency departments. The entire staff at BVRMC extends their sincere gratitude and thanks to everyone who made this possible.

Infant Mini Tranport Carts

BVRMC Baby Mini Transport Blanca Villegas, BVRMC Certified Medical Interpreter shows the ease of the transport cart.

Buena Vista Regional Healthcare Foundation purchased, five infant mini-transport carts, a safe and secure option to carry patient infant carriers and other personal items while at BVRMC. “Parents with infants typically have an infant carrier, totes and sometimes siblings with them when they come to BVRMC. We see them struggle with carrying everything plus holding onto other siblings. The infant mini transport will make their moving through the hospital safe and convenient” says, Lona Stille, Director of Patient Access.

The infant mini transport carts keep the baby carrier close to mom while secured in the docking station for transport.

“As a parent, we understand the issues a mother may have getting to appointments. The infant mini transport cart helps our families in Obstetrics. We provide a transporter at discharge for them to become familiar with how it works. We also encourage families to use the transport cart for other appointments in the facility” adds, Trish Winger, Director of OB.

The BVRMC Cares for Kids fundraising program supports the needs of the children served at BVRMC. All donations designated for Cares for Kids fund stay here at BVRMC and are used to purchase equipment and other items for children of all ages.
