BVRMC’s AWARE Fund Provides Gifts to Patients Fighting Cancer

Thanks to the generosity of donors supporting BVRMC’s AWARE fund, holiday gifts were provided to patients fighting cancer this winter. Cindy Haselhoff, a patient fighting cancer and receiving treatments in BVRMC’s Oncology & Infusion Center, expressed her appreciation.

“I would like to thank them for just putting a smile on my face,” says Haselhoff when sharing her gratitude for the donors who support the AWARE fund. “It is a blessing to get that gift of extra money to put toward your expenses.”

The AWARE fund helps purchase items not covered by insurance for patients fighting cancer at BVRMC such as hats, wigs, grocery cards, chemo shirts, mastectomy products and comfort items. Funds are raised from community donations, helping to make a difference in patients’ lives.

“We want our patients to know that BVRMC and the surrounding community cares about them and supports them throughout their journey,” says BVRMC Director of Oncology & Infusion Deb Colshan. “Holiday presents from BVRMC’s AWARE fund are just one of the ways we are able to spread cheer to our patients.”

Haselhoff recounted how she talked to the cashier at the grocery store when she went to use her gift card from the AWARE fund. She remembers the joy she had using the card and how she was excited to share where she received the gift card.

“It’s nice to let the community know what is being done for cancer patients,” says Haselhoff. “Sometimes cancer patients have a hard enough struggle without the concern of monetary expenses.”

Haselhoff has been grateful to BVRMC’s staff and donors who support the AWARE fund throughout her battle with cancer.

“My experience has been wonderful,” says Haselhoff. “The staff is very personable, caring and on-top of everything. There are no worries. If you have a concern, you call BVRMC Oncology.”
