Nursing Cape Donated to BVRMC Nursing Honor Guard

Elissa Doebel | July 7th, 2021

Helena Santillan Andrews, Aunt of local Mary Beth Andrews, recently donated her nursing cape to be used by the BVRMC Honor Guard.

The BVRMC Nursing Honor Guard has volunteers attend funerals of nurses wearing traditional white uniforms, nursing caps and blue capes. They offer to read the Nightingale Pledge, a statement of ethics and principles of the nursing profession.

“We would like to thank Helena’s family for thinking of us. This worthwhile cause honors those nurses who have passed,” states Katie Schwint, BVRMC Executive Director of Community Development.

If you or a loved one received a traditional blue wool nursing cape upon nursing school graduation and would like to donate the cape to the Nursing Honor Guard, please contact Katie Schwint, Executive Director of Community Development, at 712.213.8601.
