Dr. Richard Lampe Receives Iowa Hospital Association Excellence in Governance AwardDr. Richard Lampe, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees Chairman, has been awarded the Iowa Hospital Association Excellence in Governance Award. He received this award at the IHA Annual Meeting in Des Moines on October 11 surrounded by family and BVRMC employees.

Dr. Lampe was born and raised in Buena Vista County. He attended Buena Vista College and returned there to be a biology professor. He has a history of serving where he is needed and has held roles as professor, local conservationist, and avid community volunteer. He is a person that is always looking to improve the lives of others through his teaching or involvement.

In 2007, Dr. Lampe joined the BVRMC Board of Trustees and has held various roles on the Board. Currently he serves as the Chairman. His visionary leadership can be seen throughout BVRMC.

Dr. Lampe was one of the creators of the URMED program, a first of its kind internship program with Buena Vista University to rotate future medical students through BVRMC and some of its regional affiliates to help encourage prospective physicians to pursue careers in rural medicine. The program has been a success.

Dr. Kyle Glienke, UnityPoint Health Family Medicine Buena Vista, was one of the first URMED students. He attended BVU and found Dr. Lampe to be an effective educator and mentor.
“He is deserving of this recognition for his service because he has consistently and successfully worked to align the application of the mission of BVRMC with the goals and interests of the broader community to help meet local health care needs. He has done so by fostering understanding of what needs exist, being engaged in the broader community, and by helping to secure young practicing professionals in the area to ensure that needs are met above and beyond the present time,” states Dr. Glienke.

Dr. Lampe has served BVRMC during multiple building projects and renovations, including the recent $26 million campus development project that has reshaped the BVRMC campus without asking for any additional tax payer support.

BVRMC CEO Rob Colerick has worked with Dr. Lampe for the past six years. He states, “Beyond the tangible aspects of Dr. Lampe’s leadership, his calm demeanor and measured approach to all aspects of his role as trustee is greatly respected by both his colleagues on the board as well as by the leadership team. Rick is always pushing the board and organization to focus on those we serve and to be at the forefront of the evolution that is occurring within the health care industry.”
